BRITISH EMBASSY — AMBASSADOR’S RESIDENCE

Project Overview:

The British Ambassador’s Residence in Buenos Aires is one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious diplomatic properties abroad — an Edwardian landmark protected under Argentina’s national heritage law.

Its façade required a comprehensive heritage intervention demanding precision, multidisciplinary expertise, and a workflow capable of functioning across borders, cultures, and conservation philosophies.

The Challenge

This project presented an uncommon set of complexities:

• A foreign institution executing work in a country without a local operational structure.

• A heritage asset requiring alignment with two regulatory frameworks and two restoration philosophies.

• Pandemic restrictions disrupting inspections, travel, and on-site verification.

Acting as the operational link between local teams and international decision-makers, ensuring clear information flow, timely approvals, and unified progress. Daily cloud-based reporting provided overseas teams with real-time visibility, enabling efficient decision-making despite time-zone differences and limited on-site access.

The role focused on facilitating a complex heritage project across borders — aligning specialists, standards, and workflows so the entire team could operate as one coordinated system.

The residence underwent a full façade rehabilitation, including:

• masonry stabilization

• cornice and steel structure restoration

• mansard and zinc roofing repairs

• non-destructive cleaning techniques

• lime-based rendering and handcrafted detail recovery

• mineral silicate paint system for long-term protection

The intervention preserved one of the UK’s most significant diplomatic properties while setting a precedent for future cross-border heritage collaboration.
